2. Partners in the Middle : Revamped Midfield
A flurry of new signings this new season, and names like Henrikh Mkhitaryan and a certain Frenchman whose transfer was maybe the most alluring this season in the entire European scene, breaking a world record. But the reason the side was prepared to pay such a sum should be pondered upon. What the team lacked in a “Binding Agent” in the middle, a missing link between the defence and the offence, is what can be the role of Pogba in the team, working the ball with Mkhi and Martial and moving the ball from Bailly and company towards Rashford and Ibrahimovich. This channeling of the ball is a very Jose-isque tactic and might be very successful. Zlatan is not one to create chances himself by working the ball outside the box, but needs to be feeded viable crosses and can then he can convert them. This can be done with the wingers like Valencia, Shaw, Lingard and Martial. Rooney can then take a more flexible position and not be as overworked as the previous couple of seasons. Martial, the Golden Boy of United Fans, will take a role on the left of the pitch and try to cut in with his armada of skill and speed, a role that Memphis failed to deliver in. These partnerships in the middle need to click for a triumphant season.
