Raina was named in the Indian ODI squad for the first three ODIs against New Zealand but missed the first in Dharamsala thanksAto a viral fever. Although the southpaw hit the nets yesterday for less than an hour, the BCCI medical team confirmed that he’s still not at a 100% and ready for 2nd ODI against the AKiwis.
‘The BCCI Medical team has confirmed that Suresh Raina, who is recovering from a bout of viral fever and had missed the Dharamsala ODI, is ruled out of the second ODI of the Paytm ODI Trophy against New Zealand.AThe team management has allowed Suresh Raina more time to recover. There will be no replacement in the team,” said the BCCI.
Raina, who last played for India in October 2015, wasnat picked for both the ODI series against Australia and Zimbabwe. He was recalled for the test series after management decided to give both Ashwin and Jadeja a rest. He joined the squad in Delhi and was a part of the practise session on Tuesday.
The fever kept Raina out of the Uttar Pradesh’s Ranji trophy opener against Madhya Pradesh, but had he been match fit it would have been a selection nightmare. With Kedar Jadhav, his replacement havingApicked up two wickets with his part-time off breaks in the first ODI, and made sure that India finished the game with ease, alongside Virat Kohli.
