The Rio Olympic village with the capacity to house more Athan 17,000 athletes and officials was opened on July 24 by Rio mayor Eduardo Paes and Rio 2016 president Carlos Arthur Nuzman and basketball player Janeth Arcain.
The village is strategically located near Barra Olympic Park the main venue of games in the neighborhood of Recreio dos Bandeirantes. The sprawling campus has 31 buildings with 3,604 apartments. It has been equipped with leisure areas ,cycle apaths ,huge gym ensuring a good stay to the international athletes.
The food and catering has been taken care by a giant dining hall with an area of 27,000 square meters with capacity to host 5000 at the same time. The players will be offered wide variety of food options from across nations including local Brazilian ,Indian , Asian and international cuisine.
