The return of Dipa Karmalar after her much anticipated performance in Rio Olympics has brought a wave of happiness in the country. The hostel inmates of the player at the Indra Gandhi Stadium remember her as a simple and shy girl. Dipa had stayed in the the place for more than a month.

Judo coach Nitmala Jain remembers her as the girl who would always return a smile. The badminton coach Sunita Atwal tells that the international player was very grounded. An evident example of he simplicity is highlighted with her statement, ” I want to enjoy a rosogulla. AI love sweets so much that i can gulp three at a time.”
Bishweshwar Nandi, had full trust on the player. Dipa was diagnosed with flat foot and was not the ideal choice. She had pratcticed on a vault made by a local carpenter for long time. Her game was first noticed after her gold victory in the junior nationals. She had won several national championships which sums up to a total of 77 titles with 67 golds.
The fact that gymnastics is not a popular sport in India made things difficult for Nandi and Dipa. The coach acknowledges Dipa’s hardwork as ” When i got a berth in Olympics i pushed her hard but she never complained.” The week preceding the final were extremely tough. She had qualified at eighth there was nothing to loose. She had cried bitterly after she had finished fourth.
The coach is all geared up for 2020 and have resolved to train hard. The duo is set to give a best shot in Tokyo in 2020.
