As a co-producer, the Indian skipper said that he did not interfere much with Director, Neeraj Pandey’s vision for the movie.

“When Neeraj came to me for the film, I told him, ‘Ask whatever you want to ask but beyond that I want this film to be your own’… I answered all his questions and then he took it ahead,” the 35-year-old cricketer said at the film’s trailer launch in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Also, present at the event were Neeraj, Sushant and the film’s producers.

Talking about his parents, the cricketer said the through the course of the movie he actually realized what his parents felt about his foray and journey in the cricketing world. “I never knew what my parents thought about me when I was getting into cricket or what they felt about my journey. I never asked them… Through this film, I got to know. So, this was a new angle for me in the movie. It was the most special bit.”

The cricketer got nostalgic at the function as he reminisced the “best days of his life”.

“I think my schooling years were the best times of my life. My coach at school told me that I should play cricket and from there things began… So, I will never forget this part of my life.”

About the City Of Joy, Dhoni added, “Mumbai will always be special for me. Mumbai is unique in the way how people are focussed on their task here. Moreover, post we won the 2007 World Cup it was pure joy to see swarms of people so happy Ato brave the rains and bad weather just to see the team on the victory bus ride from the Airport to Wankhede Stadium.

To add on, it was also here that we won the 2011 World Cup, so I don’t think I need to say much about it!”

When asked about what was going on his mind before Sreesanth took that catch off a Misbah shot to clinch the 2007 World Cup for India, he said, “Well, I was present there and was just hoping he takes the catch because he was already fumbling when I saw him but later on when I saw the highlights on TV, my heart rate did shoot up for a bit.”

Dhoni also spoke about importance of extra-curricular activities, including sports, in school.

“My school encouraged sports and other activities, and I feel that’s how it should be everywhere. Sports should not be looked down upon.”
