India Colombia FIFA U-17 World Cup

India will face Colombia in a crunch Group A tie at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on Monday evening. Both the teams have lost their opening encounters in the competition – India went down to USA 3-0 while Colombia lost 1-0 against Ghana.

Indian coach Luis Norton de Matos was not happy with the outcome of the opening game, and he would be hoping that his players put up a better show against the South American giants.

a?Colombia are tough opponents and they possess the necessary elements to hurt us. We have to be on our toes all throughout and have to focus on the task at hand. They (Colombia) will also give us a tough physical fight but we are ready for it. We will play to win,a? Matos said.

Colombia has so far competed in five editions of the tournament, finishing third on two occasions. They hustled and bustled their way to India with a last-ditch victory over continental rival Paraguay, but they will still be a handful for the Indians.

India will heave a sigh of relief, as right fullback Boris Singh looks set to make a comeback into the starting XI, allowing head coach Luis Norton de Matos to move KP Rahul to the right wing. The match against the USA certainly exposed India’s weaknesses, and de Matos may be forced to make some changes, in order to plug the holes in the boat.

The last time India played Colombia was in a friendly match held in North America, in which, our colts’ went down for 3-0. Though the Colombians start with the upper hand in this match, the Indians are sure to have the full backing of the New Delhi crowd, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Kickoff is at 8:00 PM IST and the match will be telecast on SONY TEN 2 & TEN 3 in India. It can also be live streamed on SONYLIV app and website.
