Cricket has been declared as the most popular sport in Australia. The report is based on the national survey conducted by National Cricket Census. The other polular sports followed by the people are football for the national team Socceroos and Ruby.
Cricket is also liked by women as nealy 1/4 of the cricketes are female. This increases participation can be attributed toAthe victory in Women’s Big Bash League. Indoor and school participation has also witnessed a rise with 7.5% and 9.9% respectively.
CEO of Cricket Australia James Sutherland is excited with the outcome and wants that people from all spheres of life shoud come together to participate in the game.
The Australian Cricket Board is happy to see record breaking audiences in international and domestic events. The official day/night Test played against New Zealand at Adelaie Oval has also given a boost to the popularity of the game.
The statistics have revealed that about 1.3 million fans had seen international cricket ODIs and T20 matches on Nine Network. The Big Bash League has been the most popular sporting event in the last season. The event witnessed more than 1 million Australians who had seen it on Network ten and some 1,030,495 people went to attend the matches.
Cricket Australia is making attempts to increase the popularity of the sport among women. A fund of $4 million has been reportedly declared for launching Growing Cricket for Girls fund.
