Archer Zahra Nemati becomes the first Iranian woman to carry the National flag of the country in Olympics. This comes as a ground breaking move for Iran which functions strictly according to Islamic rules and norms, not providing the much needed freedom to women to be a part of sporting events.

It was a proud moment for the player who is the female archer in the team which predominately comprises of men. She was on a wheelchair and wore a green head cover during the Olympic parade. The 3 1year old archer had resolved much early in her life to represent Iran in Taekwondo. HoweverA� a major car accidentA� which left her paralyzed led her to change the course of her life. Her association with sports led the former black belt to pick up archery as her new passion.
She is not only representing Iran in Olympics but is also set to be a part of the Paralympics in the individual recurve W1/W2 in September. She has her aspirations set high and is determined to win gold to make her country and parents proud. Nemati has shown good performances in the various international events including the London Paralympics 2012 where she had won a gold. Her wprthy performances in 2015 Asian Championships and Asian Para Championships made her win the chance to represent Iran in both Olympics and Paralympics.
