The current world and Olympic champion was named in the Jamaican team for the Rio Games set to take place in August despite suffering a torn hamstring at the nation’s Olympic trials, as reported by the Gleaner newspaper on Monday.

The Jamaica Olympic Association will include the athlete in the contingent after the Jamaica Athlete Administrative Agency (JAAA) named him alongside four other runners for the 100 metres and 200 metres category post a selection committee meeting, the Kingston paper reported with holding the source name.

Jamaica are allowed a representation of just 3 runners at each event in Brazil, thus the final decision about the team for Rio will be taken by the management.

Bolt gave signs of an injury last week when he withdrew from the Jamaican championships despite winning his 100 meters semi-final heat saying he had a low-grade torn hamstring. He even tweeted a photo of the treatment he was receiving for the same:

However the provisional listing on the Jamaican team still gives Bolt a shot to complete a treble of Olympic sweeps of the 100, 200 meters andA4x100 relay gold medals at Rio if he manages to be fit enough and compete in two weeks at the Dimond League meet in London on July 22.

At the national championships, Bolt had been granted medical exemption by the authorities which means that the the third-place finisher is also a provisional qualifier. He will have to depend on Bolt’s recovery and fitness in order to be eligible.

The Gleaner further reported that Bolt had been to his doctorAHans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt in France and was doing light training.

On the other hand, British Athletics released a video message from the sprinter on Friday where he ensured his participation in London later in July.
