Ronnie Screwvala’s Unilazer Ventures is set to foray into Mumbai football with their team U Mumba to take part in the MDFA’s Elite Division 2018-19.

After making their mark in the world of Kabaddi and E Sports, U Sports are ready to invest themselves to develop Mumbai football. The team “U Mumba” will be a part of the Private section of the Mumbai District Footall Association (MDFA)’s top division, the Elite Division.

U Sports founder Ronnie Screwvala had expressed his interest about their investment in football to Sportstar, “We would be happy to have an I-League team rather than an ISL franchise. This is because we focus on the grassroots”.

U Sports is a division of the parent company Unilazer Ventures which began their journey in Indian sport through their entry in the Pro Kabaddi League. U Mumba have been one of the most successful franchises in the five season old league, winning the championship in the second season and are one of the most followed teams in the country.

Recently, Screwvala has also invested in a volleyball franchise, U Mumba Volley, which is a part of the upcoming Pro Volleyball League that will kickstart in early 2019.

After expressing the interest in an I-League team, there were rumors of talks with the All India Football Federation. However, they have decided to begin at the grassroots level with the entry into the MDFA Elite Division.

The U Mumba side will begin their MDFA Elite Division campaign against Millat FC at the Mumbai Football Arena on 19th December at 3 pm.
