New Zealand completed a comprehensive innings and 117-run win against Zimbabwe on the fourth day despite a maiden Test century from Sean Williams.
Williams hit the fastest Test century by a Zimbabwean as he reached three figures in just 106 deliveries before succumbing to the left-arm spin of Mitchell Santner.
New Zealand bowled Zimbabwe out for 295, shortly before tea in their second innings. Trent Boult has been the pick of the New Zealand bowlers in the second innings with four wickets on a flat batting track.
The second test starts on the same ground next Saturday.
“The first innings bowling effort after the toss was outstanding, and it put us ahead in the game,” New Zealand captain Kane Williamson said.
“To get the score we did and put Zimbabwe under pressure was outstanding. We’re looking forward to the next match”, The 25-year-old added.
The African nation continued their poor record against Black Caps as they now lost all matches in 16 meetings, this being their 10th loss.
