Britain’s No 1 Andy Murray beat Milos Raonic 6-4, 7-6, 7-6 to capture in 2nd Wimbledon title in a dominant performance at the Centre Court.
Andy Murray produced some of his best tennis to demolish the Canadian, Milos Raonic in the Wimbledon 2016 final. Both the players had demonstrated great determination throughout the tournament. With no Djokovic, Federer or Nadal this was Murray’s golden opportunity to win a Grand Slam. Elsewhere, Milos Raonic was looking to become the first Canadian to win a Grand Slam title.
Both players started well, but it was Murray who looked in control always being two-steps ahead of the Canadian. Having played ten Grand Slam finals, each other them against Roger Federer or Novak Djokovic, this time Andy faced a rookie who was experiencing his first ever major slam final. That might have got to Milos who looked on the back foot through out the match.
Raonic to his credit did well to get to deuce on his serve in the seventh game of the first set after being down 15-40. But nerves were getting the better of his as Milos looked nervous. With the second break point opportunity, Murray got the break and was on his way to capturing the opening set.
The second and the third set saw some fierce hitting from both the players taking the sets into tie-breaks. But it was Andy Murray who dominated the tie-breaks strolling past Raonic.A Murray was a teenager the last time he lost at Wimbledon from two sets up but suddenly in the fifth game of the third he was staring at two break points.Upon saving them both, he signalled to the crowd to get behind him and help him over the line.Inevitably, perhaps, he was going to need to win another tie-break though.
