The Portuguese media hailed the team that won the European Championship on Sunday after defeating France 1-0 in the finals.
The team will return home on Monday via a plane that was was named after the late football legend Eusebio and the celebrations and frenzy will continue there.
The media in the country is all ga-ga over the win and has already shown signs of the kgrand welcome that the team shall receive when they arrive home.
The Publico newspaper declared,A”10th of July, Portugal’s Day” accompanied with a picture of Eder celebrating the sole goal which proved to be match winner to give the country it’s first European title.
Another ‘O Jogo’ sports newspaper ran the headline “Eternal” with a photograph of the entire team.
On the other hand, The Daily wrote,A”Sunday began with a jackpot of medals at the European Athletics championship and it ended with an explosion of heroics and happiness.”
The Record had the headline “Epic” alongside a picture of the players while A Bola, a sports newspaper published the image of the team captain Ronaldo lifting the trophy.
Ronaldo Asustained a knee injury in the final due to which he left the final midway in the first half but had already contributed in Portugals’ run to the final. Earlier in the group stage he had netted two goals to help the team to a 3-3 draw against Hungary which had also made in the the first player in the history of the Euro to score in four editions.
Correio da Manha newspaper put forth the headline,A”The Euro is ours, we are the champions,” with a picture of Ronaldo in tears whilst he held the Cup.
Online, Jornal de Noticias showed coach Fernando Santos lifting the Cup with the headline “It’s ours!”.A”Ronaldo lifted a Cup made up of effort and tears,” the paper declared.
