The Williams’ sisters who had paired up for the women’s doubles at Wimbledon defeated fifth seedsATimea Babos of Hungary and Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan in straight sets of 6-3 6-4 to clinch their sixth Wimbledon title together.

Earlier in the day, on the Centre Court itself, Serena Williamshad defeated Angelique Kerber 7-5, 6-3 andAwon her singles title to add a 22nd Grand Slam victory to her name equalling Steffi Graf’s record.

Another stat to reckon when it comes to the siblings is that it was their 14th doubles win at Majors and their 22nd in the 23 finals that they have entered with the last loss coming in 1999 at San Diego.

“It’s awesome to win another doubles at Wimbledon,” said Serena.

Venus said: “I never want to make a mistake. I don’t want to let Serena down. She brought the energy from the singles on to the doubles court.”

Serena and Venus hadn’t played together for two years before this year but reunited as part of their build-up for the Olympic Games next month for the American contingent.
