The Indian tricolour was finally raised last night at the Olympic Athletes Village with the help of Samba beats and Brazilan folk dancers. Present in the audience wasAOlympic medallist Janeth Arcain, the ex-basketball player who also happens to the major of the the Olympic Village.

Also among the crowd was Jitu Rai, ace Indian shooter who is among the many Indian medal hopefuls at these Olympics, and although many athletes were missing, mainly due to their rigorous training schedules. Our Indian athletes have been arriving in the village slowly but steadily. But several of them were did arrive after training, including other Indian medal hopefuls Prakash Nanjappa,AGurpreet Singh, Chain Singh and Manpreet Kaur and Khushbir Kaur, who are a part of the women’s hockey team were also present.

The man who pulled us out of our normalcy..

The Indian contingent this Ayear happens to have more than 120 athletes in over 15 disciplines, which happens to be the largest ever team of athletes to participate in the Olympics ever! And with over 60 newcomers, this Indian team might just be the one that manages to surpass every other team. And it’s no surprise as this has been coming for a while now, especially after Abhinav Bhindra the man who pulled us out of mediocrity, out of the satisfaction of being happy with one gold medal. Maybe, after the London Olympics where our anthem disappeared during medal ceremonies, maybe, just maybe our bold new generation can make their mark and make India proud again.

We have the potential to explode and cross the century mark, that countries like US and China make their minimum, but at the same time there is that feeling. That lingering negative thought in all of us that makes us fear the worst. But our athletes feel the same thoughts, and they also want to hear the national anthem being sung on every single podium, and I have a feeling that it just might happen. Do you?
