The number one seed pair of Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza lost their women’s doubles quarter final encounter at the Wimbledon on Thursday.

They were defeated in straight sets of 6-2 6-4 by the fifth seeded pair of Timea Babos of Hungary and Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan in one hour and eight minutes.

Sania Mirza had earlier crashed out of the mixed doubles in the second round when she and Aher Croatian partner Ivan Dodig had lost in straight sets.

In the very first set itself, the pair lost their serve and successively the opposition won the seventh game to claim the first set 6-2.

If the first set was easy, the second one was a cakewalk forABabos and Shvedova as they secured a strong lead of A5-1 with a double break.

Mirza and Hingis did make some ends when they broke the rival serve to make it 4-5 but to no avail since the winners held onto their serve to make the cut to the semi-finals.

Unforced errors and not winning points on the first serve caused the game for the Indo-Swiss pair.

Mirza would have liked to get some form going her way with less than a month left for Rio Olympics.
