A near-record crowd of 105,826 was in attendance to watch Real Madrid score three first-half goals, and go on to win 3-2 against Chelsea in a friendly at on Saturday.

The attendance at the Michigan Stadium was 4,000 shy of a record attendance for a soccer match in the United States. The record was set when 109,318 spectators watched Real Madrid and Manchester United in action at the same stadium in Ann Arbor two years ago.

The crowd turned up despite the absence of Real Madrid stars Karim Benzema, who is out with a hip ailment, and Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, both of whom have been given time off after Euro 2016.

Brazilian left back Marcelo opened the account for Real Madrid with goals in the 19th and 26th minutes, and also set-up Mariano in the 37th minute to give the Spanish side a lead of 3-0.
