Liverpool midfielder James Milner has retired from international duty with England at the age of 30. The Football Association announced on Friday.

The former Manchester City manAwon 61 caps for England after making his senior debut in 2009 andAhas been part of the England squad at the last four major tournaments,A, informed new England manager Sam Allardyce of his decision this week.

“I would like to thank Sam for taking the time to come and see me in person and have the conversation,” Milner said.

“James can be proud of his seven-year career as a senior England player and has never let his country down when called upon,” he said.

The England manager said Milner had agreed to still make himself available in exceptional circumstances.
