Australian athlete Jared Tallent will not compete in 20 km walk due to some problem in hamstring. The 31-year-old who is the captain of the Australian track and field team at Rio will focus entirely on the 50km walk, which has always been his priority.
He highlighted his priority stating that, “Although I would have liked to be out there in the 20k, it’s just best not to risk it at this stage and put everything into the 50k. I want to have everything right for that.a?
The athletesas earlier track records include silver medal in the 50km walk while bronze in the 20km event. He had finished second in the London Olympics but was later rewarded gold in a special ceremony in Melbourne after Russian Sergey Kirdyapkin was booked for doping.
Tallent has all aspirations set on the 50km event which will take place on the eighth day on August 19 in Rio.
