The Indian Super League (ISL) season five is set for kickoff in about five days time and last season’s league leaders Bengaluru FC will begin at home when they host ISL champions Chennaiyin FC on September 30.
We take a look at the Bengaluru FC side that finished atop the league standings last season but lost out in the final to Chennaiyin FC.
Bengaluru FC ISL Season 5 Squad
Goalkeepers: Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Soram Poirei Anganba, Aditya Patra (U21)
Defenders: Rahul Bheke, Albert Serran, Sairuat Kima, Juanan Gonzalez, Harmanjot Singh Khabra, Rino Anto, Nishu Kumar, Asheer Akhtar, Gursimrat Singh Gill
Midfielders: Erik Paartalu, Kean Francis Lewis, Dimas Delgado, Bidyananda Singh, Boithang Haokip, Francisco ‘Xisco’ Hernandez, Ajay Chhetri (U21), Altamash Sayed
Forwards: Nicolas Ladislao Fedor ‘Miku’, Sunil Chhetri, Thongkhosiem Haokip, Udanta Singh, Chencho Gyeltshen.
Carles Cuadrat was appointed as the head coach after former manager Albert Roca chose not to extend his contract with Bengaluru FC for this season. This will be Carles Cuadrat’s first-ever assignment as a head coach of a football coach.
Two of the most notable signings made by the Bengaluru FC side are Spanish medio Xisco Hernandez and Bhutanese winger and former Minerva Punjab FC man Chencho Gyeltshen. Xisco, a former Mallorca player is expected to replace Edu Garcia who moved on to China last season. Minerva winger Chencho was arguably the best foreign player in the I-League last year as he led the Punjab club to glory in the league.
In the Indian contingent, Bengaluru have recruited Kean Lewis who is expected to give depth to their attack. They have promoted a few young players from the reserves side this time.
The strike force of Bengaluru is perhaps one of the best in the league this year with Miku, Sunil Chhetri, and Udanta Singh with the support of Chencho, Thongkhosiem Haokip and Kean Lewis upfront.
The only weak links that Bengaluru FC perhaps have is the goalkeeping position and the left-back spot. Gurpreet Singh Sandhu is the first choice for the Bengaluru side and they have signed Soram Poirei and Aditya Patra this season and thus, lack experience as a whole. The left-back position will be occupied as the Blues lost Subhashish Bose to Mumbai City FC and Nishu Kumar will be the lone man.
SportzDose Prediction for Bengaluru FC
Bengaluru FC are a well-drilled side and the elevation of Carles Cuadrat and a couple of clinical signings could see them achieve a playoffs spot easily considering their attacking firepower.
