Sign Mahrez Arsene Wenger!
Arsenal fans were overjoyed when they found out that manager Arsene Wenger had turned his sights towards PFA player of the year Riyad Mahrez who was an integral part of Leicester’s incredible and magical title winning season after he scored 17 goals. When Wenger turned up in LA to watch the Leicester side lose to PSG, he fueled even more rumors and according to some unsettling the 25 year old. That wasn’t all that happened this week, with the Arsenal boss being chased on the beach by a fan who begged him to sign Mahrez or actually sign another first team worthy striker. Glad to see someone doing something, and maybe Wenger took his words seriously!
While Mahrez would certainly bring flair to the side, an ability that the Arsenal manager craves, Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri has other ideas.A”Maybe Riyad is distracted a bit by all of these rumors and speculation,” Ranieri said. “But that is also an experience for my players. It is important that he understands that he should stay with us.” The Italian has already said that Mahrez would be nothing but a bench warmer if he signs for Arsenal, and that he (Mahrez) should stay at Leicester where he has a guaranteed starting place.
With Wenger needing a new player to boost competition and a new striker to help the Gunners become more prolific, after rumors surfaced thatAArsenal having approached both AlexandreALacazette and Inter’s Mauro Icardi, and now Riyad Mahrez. Wenger does have a certain way of getting Arsenal fans hope up by linking them to brilliant and prolific players and then signing nobody. But so far, this year with Granit Xhaka, Rob Holding (who scored his first goal just hours earlier) and Takuma Asano, this transfer window may finally be the one Gooners (including myself) have high hopes about!
Leicester City on the other hand will not want to let go of any more key players, after Kante left for Chelsea for a fee of 32 million pounds, and would want Mahrez to follow instead in the footsteps of teammate Jamie Vardy who rejectedAArsenal and signed a 4 year contract extension.
