National, 17 August 2023: The World Bridge Teams Championships are all set to begin in Morocco on 20th August, with inauguration ceremony scheduled on the 19th. The Bermuda Bowl for Open team category is easily the most coveted of all bridge trophies at the world level.
Venice cup is another celebrated event, is exclusively for Women teams, while the Wuhan cup will be fought for by mixed teams. Finally, for the seniors (more than 65 years), there is the Dorsi trophy. Each category has 24 nations in the fray in an all play all round Robin event and over 23 matches. Thereafter, top 8 teams in each category will play the knockouts.
The World Bridge Federation has 7 zones and each zone conducts its zonal selection trials, to select teams as per the quota allotted to the zone. India, who falls in zone 4, has qualified to field a team in each of the four event, after winning the zone 4 trials in May this year, at Lahore. The play will be broadcast live on BBO portal with the Vu graph system .There will be a live video feed too. It will be a treat for followers of this wonderful mind-sport worldwide, as the watch their national teams, battle it out in this gruelling event.
