With 1 a 0 down in the series England firmly placed to square the series with some solid all round performance in the first 2 days of the 2nd Test in Manchester.

The four match test series started with a convincing 75 run victory for the visiting team at Lordas. With good batting conditions at Old Trafford England managed to start proceedings in a much better way as compared to the 1st Test match. Joe Root who is rated as one of the best and consistent players in world cricket succumbed to some unnecessary shots at Lordas and lost his precious wicket quite cheaply in both the innings.

Day 2 started with England well placed on 314 for 4. At the crease were Joe Root & Chris Woakes who was sent in as a nightwatchman. The early session was dominated by Woakes with his graceful batting display hitting eight fours and a six to his name but later on he was dismissed by Yasir Shah on the score of 58.

Joe Rootas return to form is a very good sign for the English side. He crossed the 150 runs mark for the fifth time in his short career. Pakistan in reply are struggling on 57 for 4 as a result of some accurate bowling by Chris Woakes.
