Gujarat Lions and Royal Challengers Bangalore face off in a bottom-table clash in search of elusive wins.
Gujarat Lions (GL) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are not in a happy place. The place is at the bottom of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 table. GL have just one win and three losses; while RCB are scratching at the bottom of the barrel with four miserable losses from five matches.
Bowling Issues for Gujarat and Bangalore
The problems for both the teams remain to be identical. It is the bowling that is seeing them struggle big time. RCB have the likes of Tymal Mills and Adam Milne in their armoury; but they have not been match- winning bowlers for them yet. On the other hand, no bowler barring Andrew Tye has looked threatening with the ball for the Gujarat Lions. That said, it will be down to the team who bats well in the match.
RCB have by far the most formidable batting in the tournament; with Kohli, Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers being among the best batsmen in the business. GL too have the likes of Raina, Brendon McCullum, Dwayne Smith and Aaron Finch in their batting armoury.
The Gujarat Lions clearly prefer chasing and their only win this season was when they had the opportunity to chase. What should concern coach Brad Hodge and the rest of the Lions team management; is that no matter all the riches in the batting department, the bowlers have failed to defend reasonable totals; the Lions have lost matches despite posting 183, 135 and 176.
RCB need to find something that can light the ignition and get them going. They have used 19 different players so far and have fielded a different opening pair in all their matches.AThe team is not being helped by the fact that their overseas all-rounder a Shane Watson a has not done anything of note with bat and ball.
Gujarat all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has been declared fit and trained with the team. His return may just be the boost that GL needed to get their campaign on track.
