As the World Cup comes back to England where it was started. All the teams are looking very strong
towards this the huge campaign. So as the Indian Team who has announced its 15 man squad today
will look to repeat the 1983 phenomenon on the English Soil this time under the captaincy of Virat
Kohli. Kohli has been so far the successful captain by registering 49 wins out of his 68 matches he
captained on a winning percentage of 73.1. A plenty of weight will be on his shoulders as he takes
his team to the 2019 World Cup.
Looking at the Squad there is a lot of balance to be considered. The debate amongst the selection of
either Dinesh Karthik or Rishabh Pant for the second wicketkeeper is won by Dinesh Karthik as the
Keeper/Batsmen is all set to represent the side in his second world cup. MSK Prasad explained
Karthik’s selection as he knows how to handle the pressure. The another issue of the number 4 place
for the batting is still under debate between Kedar Jadhav, Vijay Shankar and Kl Rahul for which
mostly Vijay Shankar’s recommendation is considered as the solution.
Looking at the batting the first 3 Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma(Vice Captain) and Virat Kohli are the
very important opening lineup in the playing XI as this trio will have the expected above the average
percent of runs contribution for the team. Followed by that the 3 big names on whom everyone’s
eyes will be on are Kedar Jadhav, All Rounder Vijay Shankar and Batsmen KL Rahul who are playing
their first world cup. Shankar’s selection was considered on his performance against Australia and
Newzealand in the past two series where he showed some class in his batting. Whereas KL Rahul has
only played in one One Day International in this year so far and is looking out of touch. MS Dhoni is
set to play his fourth World Cup for the team and already has a huge experience in all the major ICC
tournaments as a captain as well as the player. He has already given World Cup to India in 2011.
The Bowling Lineup is looking very strong and confident in terms of pace battery i.e Jasprit Bumrah,
Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Hardik Pandya etc on the other side for spin options with
the likes of confident Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja are ready to
show the firepower in the tournament. Hardik Pandya who is playing his first world cup will be
considered to be the lethal weapon in all-rounders department alongside with Ravindra Jadeja.
“After the Champions Trophy, we have tried a few middle order options. We gave a few more chances to Rayudu but what Vijay Shankar offers is 3 dimensional. If the conditions are overcast. he might bowl a bit and he is a fantastic fielder. He is a batsman who can bowl.
“In the team, we have the luxury of 7 bowlers. We have covered all the bases and this is one of the most balanced Indian sides for the World Cup,” Prasad said.
MSK Prasad revealed the Khaleel Ahmed and Navdeep Saini were also discussed as back-up pacers and added they would be on stand-by and will fly down to England if the need arises.
“Khaleel and Saini were discussed and they will be around. If the need arises, one of them will go to England,” he said.
