MUMBAI, APRIL 16: Ambernath United Atlanta FC added another trophy to their growing cabinet, as they beat Bank of Baroda by 3-1 in the final of the Nadkarni Cup 2023.
After a well fought win against defending Champions Air India FC in the semifinal, Ambernath United Atlanta FC had managed to oust a formidable side that had won the Nadkarni Cup from 2017-2019, i.e three times in a row.
Goals from Arif Shaikh, Himanshu Patil and Abhijit Tawhare were enough for Ambernath United Atlanta FC to win 3-1. Both the clubs were eyeing their first ever Nadkarni Cup triumph in the competitions 115 year old history.
Arif Shaikh put AUA FC in front in the first half. Himanshu Patil doubled the lead to make it 2-0 midway through the second half. Bank Of Baroda pulled one back to half the deficit. Abhijit added a third as Ambernath United Atlanta FC restored their two-goal cushion.
Bank of Baroda at 2-1 down tried to make a comeback in the match but could not manage to score the equaliser. Abhijit’s goal was the clincher for Ambernath United Atlanta FC who clinched another double in the club’s history. Adding to their Elite Premier League and Harwood Champions League from 2021-22, they now have won the Elite Premier League and Nadkarni Cup in 2022-23 season.
Elsewhere in the Hero I-League 2, Ambernath United Atlanta FC are in second place in Group D on 11 points, three points behind ARA FC who are on 14 points. Both these clubs are scheduled to meet towards the end of this month in what could be the most important match of Group D.
